The brief

We're building a campaign for local shops, to get young people buying in their own neighbourhood. We were thinking something current.

The decision

Barrio con futuro

urban electronic pop with a garage pulse and a choral hook · close · young · bright · catchy

Buying local has to feel current, social and aspirational to a young audience, not institutional or nostalgic. It calls for a sung piece with a short, very repeatable hook that turns shopping nearby into belonging. A female voice up front, to give the message a maternal warmth.

Ruled out

  • Warm acoustic indie of the artisan shop

Tempting for talking about proximity, it pushes the campaign towards nostalgia, tradition and an older audience. Here local has to read as contemporary and desirable, not as a fond obligation.

  • Hard reggaetón or trap with a dominant attitude

A plausible reading of «something current», it shifts the message towards nightlife and ego, which do not build community. It would make the campaign more aggressive and less inclusive.

  • Corporate pop with handclaps and ukulele

It would deliver the positivity, and make the piece interchangeable with any institutional or banking campaign. It kills exactly what the brief needs: cultural credibility.
